Hi folks,
here's the story of a meeting I attended a few weeks ago in the Netherlands
with the Suzuki Savage Club Holland.
Hope this is another contribution for hogriders insatiable demand for stories.
Hi Savage Club Holland,
here is, liked I promised, my report of the 1st Savage Club Holland meeting in Melderslo from August 27th to 29th.
First of all: The meeting was a great success. The atmosphere was great, the weather was even better and all was organisied really good and went well.
I started off on Friday 27th around 12 o'clock in Mainz, had pretty good weather. I took a country road along the Rhein, passed famous places such as Boppard, St.Goar and the Loreley and from Bonn on I travelled on the Autobahn all the way up to Melderslo. The Savage ran great and I agree with what most people said in this forum: The Savage feels the best on curvy country roads, it's not designed as a travelling bike for extended trips on highways or the Autobahn.
I arrived in Melderslo at around 5 pm and after searching around a bit I found the Motorcamp D'N Toerstop. Some people of the club were already there and after the rest had found the way to the camp we took up our tents and had a great time in the bar of the camp.
The Motorcamp D'N Toerstop is exclusively for motorcycles only, cars are not excepted. I've never seen anything like this in Germany, it'a great thing and I guess since nothing is impossible in the States someting like this exists there too. The athmosphere was great, many bikers from the Netherlands and Germany were there and the bar looked like a real bikerstop, beercans from all over the world, emblems and t-shirts from every motorcycle club ever having been there and two bikes hanging from the ceiling.
After a fine breakfast Saturday morning we went on a trip around the beautiful country side of Melderslo. We were about 26 bikers, everything went great, no difficulties. We went along small alleys and came across woods and swamps. Melderslo is a real beautiful place for bike trips. Around noon we stopped at a Suzuki dealer who supplied us with cake and coffee. We went on with our trip and after a short "short cut" over Germany (the german border is not too far away) we stopped again in a restaurant to have something to eat and cold drinks. They had "Frikadellen" here which has nothing in common with the Frikadellen you get in Germany. Frikadellen in Germany could be compared to american Hamburgers, these looked more like Hot Dogs, but tasted really good.
On Sunday it was one of the Savage Club members birthday. I can't remember her name, but she had the most beautiful Savage to my opinion. All bikers in the bar came together to congratulate her.
After another good breakfast in the morning we took down our tents, packed the bikes and everyone hit the roads back home again. I left at around 11³° and returned back home in Mainz at about 4 pm. It was a beautiful trip again, the Savage ran well without any problems.
All in all the meeting was a big success. The whole atmosphere was great and everything was organisied splendidly. I would like to say thanks to Ton and all other Club members for me to be able to participate in the meeting since I'm not a official member. I hope the club will have other great meetings like this one in the future and hopefully will be able to participate again next year, maybe other Savage owners from Germany too.
Safe riding and happy Savageging in the future, Alfred
